The Norwalk High Bears head into the 2026 season focused, motivated, and determined to make their mark in one of Connecticut’s most competitive conferences.
Coming off a developmental year, the Bears are walking onto the field with a chip on their shoulders and a roster that blends veteran experience with hunger. Leading the defensive unit is senior Yancy Braxton. Known for his physical presence and high IQ, Braxton is focused on making the most of his final season as a Bear.

“Being a senior, you realize every ground ball and every sprint matters a little more,” says Yancy Braxton. “We’ve put in the work during the offseason to make sure we aren’t just competing we’re winning the 50/50 battles. My job is to keep the energy high and make sure the younger guys know how bad we want to win this year.”
Head coach Smith sees a shift not just in performance, but in mentality. “This group has grown a lot since last season not just in skill but in accountability,” he said. “They’ve bought into what it takes to compete at a high level every single day. The expectation now isn’t just to show up and play hard it’s to execute, stay disciplined, and trust each other. If we do that we’ll put ourselves in a position to win games.”
On the offensive end, the Bears are looking to junior standout AJ Gigliotti to provide the spark. Gigliotti, a creative playmaker with a knack for finding the net, represents a junior class that has stayed together and leveled up their chemistry.
“The connection we have this year feels different,” said AJ. “We aren’t just looking for individual goals we’re looking for the best shot for the team. My goal is to stay aggressive and keep the defense on their heels. We know the FCIAC is a hard conference, but we’re ready to prove that the Bears can run with anyone.”

As the team prepares for their upcoming home stand, the atmosphere at practice is one of disciplined urgency. There is a sense that the program is turning a corner and may be able to compete within the FCIAC.
