Many Hands, One Heart

Through a gallery of photos, see how the field hockey team uses their annual motto to help create bonds and connections on and off the field with pasta parties, pregame, and games.

Every year Coach Seaburg invents a motto for the team that they go by the entire season. He does this chant during the practice before a game and the day of the game before warmups. He starts it off by saying a line and then having his players repeat the next.

When field hockey season starts in August Coach Seaburg doesn’t announce the motto until after the first practice. He makes bracelets with the motto on it and gives them to each player to ensure they live by it in their daily lives and not just during field hockey. It is a way of motivating the players to connect to one another on a deeper level. If the team is working together to hold each other accountable towards the same goal, they are more likely to be successful.

This year the motto is, “Make the effort, to be your best, many hands, one mind, one heart, one team.” The field hockey team preaches “practice how you play.” Giving full effort at practices, especially pregame helps them execute teamwork in their games to win.

Pasta parties are another chance to display and work towards the motto. Spending quality time as a team helps field hockey fulfill the “one mind, one heart, one team” part of the motto.

By becoming more familiar and comfortable with this way of performing, the team has shown a high level of improvement in team chemistry on the field. The girls can prove their ability when working together towards one common goal.
