Boys Soccer Opens Up Season With Impressive Victory
Norwalk Boys Soccer starts the season strong.
This past Friday, October 2, the Norwalk High Boys Soccer Team began their season with a resounding 4-0 victory against rival Brien McMahon High School. With a complete team effort, the boys were able to maintain dominance over their rivals for the whole 80-minute game. Norwalk’s Brandon Rodriguez opened the scoring with a header just 1:46 before the end of the first half. When halftime hit, Coach Chris Laughton told his players to set the tone in the first five minutes of the second half. The boys did so early in the second half with a breathtaking shot from the right wing by Gregory Foster. With 19 minutes remaining, Norwalk added another goal when Christos Kutrubis cashed in on a penalty kick opportunity. To truly cap off the shutout performance, Norwalk’s Jhonny Santamaria added yet another goal just 2 minutes after the last. The Bears also played stellar defense, as McMahon’s scoring chances were few and far between throughout the affair. Following the game, Coach Laughton commented on how the team was hungry for a second goal as soon as they scored their first, and how the boys maintained good energy for the whole 80 minutes. Coach Laughton also has high hopes for the rest of the season, and knows the team is more than capable of maintaining this high level of play. The boys face McMahon once again on Monday, and look to produce similar results.
