With the fall season just starting, the Girls Swim and Dive Team is looking to have a very successful season.
The team kicked off their season with their first meet on Thursday 9/14 against New Canaan in memory of Kelly Devine who passed away in 2016. Devine was a swimmer and coach involved in both the Norwalk and New Canaan swim and dive communities. “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” is a quote that Devine and her family lived by that the team internalizes as a push to have a victorious season.
The team is coached by Pam Raila who is assisted by Marco Minnocci and Amy Guster. This year’s captains are Madison Marini, Mara Zullo and Samantha Taylor. Marini and Zullo are seniors at Norwalk High, and Taylor is a senior at Brien McMahon. We got the chance to talk with captain Mara Zullo about this year’s season, and she says that this year “Our team’s bond is a lot stronger as well as our team’s physical skill.” Sophomore swimmer Isla Cunniffe tells us the teams main goal is to, “have lots of people qualify for the states team, as well as have great energy on deck.” The team is very motivated this year to accomplish goals to become better all around.
The NorMac Girls Swim and Dive team has a lot of experience including 8 seniors between Norwalk High and Brien McMahon. The main goal is to make more state cuts to qualify for the state meet, in late October. The team looks to work hard, become better, and make Norwalk High School proud.
