The Huddle – Superstitions
This episode of the Huddle Podcast looks into the many pregame rituals of Norwalk High athletes.
A 100m runner blessing themselves before a race, a footballer with his lucky pants or the Golfer with his favorite putter, everyone has rituals.
A ritual in sports can be defined as ‘a certain behavior or action that a sports performer carries out with the belief that these behaviors have a specific purpose, or power, to influence their performance’. But as we’ll come to understand, the real value in superstition or ritual is the boost of confidence and the sense of control that they provide a sports person. In the words of Alistair Morin, “If your mental game is shaken, there’s no way you’ll be able to deliver where you want.”
On this special episode of The Huddle, we look into the pregame routines that some of Norwalk High’s most talented athletes use to enhance their performance.
