The girls Lax season took off on April 2nd and has more recently started FCIAC play. The team has great chemistry, almost looking like a huge friend group taking the field at once (which it basically is). Led by coach Lynette Martinez and senior captains Sydney Raleigh, Ava Gigliotti, and Keira Gilchrist. As good of a job they’ve done at being leaders and proficient scorers, they haven’t been the only ones to adapt into this role…
Sophomore sensations Ainsley Wikander, Kiki Togridis, Giana Testa, Emma Lockwood, & Leila Andriopolous have all played a crucial part to the team. Ainsley, Kiki, Gianna, & Emma all started playing lacrosse in their freshman year, trying something new, which worked out for them as they all now start at their respective positions in their sophomore year. Leila on the other hand, has been playing lacrosse since 7th grade and even made the varsity team but unfortunately got injured which ended her freshman year before it could even start.
Coming into their sophomore year the girls were even more prepared than they were coming into their freshman year, doing clinics over the summer and some even playing club. The sophomores are all two sport-athletes with Ainsley, Kiki, Emma, & Gianna playing Field Hockey in the fall and Leila playing Girls’ Volleyball. Unfortunately for Ainsley, “A-Wik” for what her teammates call her, she had a season-ending injury and was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her shin. Before that, Ainsley was rocking the field with her classmates, Emma, Gianna, Kiki, & Leila.
The Lady Bears of lacrosse have three important home FCIAC games to try and make a push for states, May 8th vs. Stamford @6PM, May 10th vs. McMahon @3PM, & May 13th vs. Wilton @5:30PM (All games take place at lower field at Nathan Halle Middle School).
