This fall season 10 athletes from Norwalk High School were recognized for their abilities on the field and received postseason awards. First Team All FCIAC recipients were Dalton Bury and Kaelyn Fogelson. Second Team All FCIAC recipients were, Will Butler, Jordan Stefanides, Ava Oustafine, Avery Vaccaro, Katie Brennan, and Ashley Carvente. Maddy Yusi, Stella Talisse, and Zoey Wilds were awarded Honorable Mention. Kaelyn Fogelson also received First Team All-State. Take a look at each of these players’ profiles below to gather more information on each of these athletes and their athletic accomplishments.
Boys Soccer:
Dalton Bury has been playing soccer for eight years. During his time in the Norwalk High Boys Soccer Program, he has been part of the Varsity team since his Sophomore year. He has started in the Goalie position for two years, also being a two-year captain. Dalton has been awarded 2023 FCIAC All West for his time with the Boy’s Soccer team, and this year, he was awarded 2024 First Team All FCIAC.
William Butler has been playing soccer ever since he was 5, and for his last year playing, he was the starting striker. He has been a part of the varsity team since his Junior year, making this his second season with them. This year, William Butler earned the award of 2024 All West FCIAC.
Starting soccer at the age of 4, Jordan Stefanides has continued through high school, playing center-back for the Norwalk High Boys Soccer Program. Jordan has been a part of the varsity team since his sophomore year but has been starting since his junior year. Jordan has yet to earn any post-season awards, but this year was awarded the 2024 All-West.
Girls Soccer:
Ava Oustafine has been playing defense for Norwalk High’s Girl’s Soccer Varsity for the past 3 years. Ava has played soccer for 11 years and has been a big part of the team since her freshman year. This year, Ava was recognized and received the 2024 All FCIAC Second Team award.
Field Hockey:
Kaelyn Fogelson has been a varsity starter since her freshman year. She started playing field hockey in the 3rd grade, playing as a forward. Over the years at Norwalk High, she has been awarded 4x All FCIAC as well as 4x All State, being one of the first to do so for field hockey. Kaelyn was a captain for her senior season and earned (awards this year). Kaelyn will continue to play field hockey for the next four years at Fairfield University.
Starting her field hockey career freshman year, Avery Vaccaro has been a 3-year varsity starter for the Norwalk High Lady Bears Field Hockey team. Avery is committed to playing at Southern Connecticut State University next year. She was noticed this year and received the award for 2024 Second Team All FCIAC.
Madelyn Yusi has been playing field hockey for 5 years, 4 of them being for the Norwalk High Field Hockey team. Of her four years on the team, she started on varsity for three. She has received previous awards of Honorable Mention in 2023, as well as 2024 FCIAC Honorable Mention.
Sophomore Stella Talisse started playing her freshman year, making the varsity team as a freshman. Stella started this year on the 2024 Norwalk High Varsity Field Hockey team. She was recognized for her hard work on the field and was awarded with 2024 FCIAC Honorable Mention.
Girls Swim and Dive:
Making the Varsity swim team her freshman year at Norwalk High, Katie Brennan has been swimming for over 10 years. She earned the captain title for her senior year, her fourth year on varsity. While with the NorMac Swim and Dive, she earned First Team All FCIAC awards and was recognized for CT Top 16 and CT Scholar-Athlete. This year she earned All FCIAC Second Team in the 200 Medley Relay.
Ashley Carvente has been swimming for 10 years. She has been on the NorMac Girls Swim and Dive team for 3 years and began starting her sophomore year. This season, as a senior she was named captain and was recognized for her hard work earning All FCIAC Second Team in the 200 Medley Relay.
Volleyball:
Zoey Wilds started playing volleyball during her freshman year. Being her 3rd year with the Norwalk High Volleyball program, this is her first year with the varsity team. Zoey began starting on the varsity team this year, and her efforts during the season were recognized with the 2024 FCIAC Honorable Mention.
The Norwalk High Football team’s season ends after every other sport, with their last game against McMahon on Thanksgiving. This year Norwalk beat McMahon 22-14 with an amazing game. From this team, 8 received recognition for their great seasons, 3 made the 2024 FCIAC top 45 list and 5 made the 2024 FCIAC All East.
Football:
During his 3rd year on varsity, Kevin Gordon has been recognized with All East, All FCIAC Offensive Player of the Year, and during the 2024 season with Top 45 players in the FCIAC. Kevin has been playing football for 10 years, 3 being with Norwalk High’s varsity team. From his years playing with the Bears, he has started for 2 as a WR and DB.
Without receiving any previous awards with the Norwalk High Football team, Ethan Hudson was recognized this year for being a Top 45 player in the FCIAC. Ethan has been playing football ever since 5th grade, and with his time at Norwalk High, he has been playing on varsity since his sophomore year. Ethan’s efforts this year led him to be a key player in the positions of RB and S.
Edgardo Torres has been playing football ever since the 7th grade. Playing for the Norwalk High Football program, he has started on varsity ever since his sophomore year, playing OL and DL. During his time playing for Norwalk’s Varsity team he has been recognized with All FCIAC junior year, as well as being recognized by National Football Foundation’s Scholar Athletes. After the 2024 season, he received recognition for being among the Top 45 players in the FCIAC.
Transitioning from soccer to football his senior year, Esteban Araya-Lopez became the Norwalk High School’s Kicker for the varsity team. Being his first football season ever, Esteban scored every field goal kicked but one during the season. With his great efforts this season, he was recognized with FCIAC All East.
Junior, Yancy Braxton has been playing football for almost 10 years, of the years he has been on varsity all 3 years of high school. Playing for Norwalk High’s varsity Football, he’s started at LB for all of his time starting, ever since freshman year. Receiving no previous awards, he was recognized for the 2024 FCIAC All East.
Phoenix Diurno has been playing football since 4th grade. Coming into high school, Phoenix started his football career freshman but worked his way up and by the end of the season was on the varsity team. He quickly became a starter for the Bears as LB and WR and his hard work paid off as he received All East Honorable Mention sophomore year and All East junior year.
David Harry started his football career as a freshman here at Norwalk High School. He has been a varsity starter since his junior year and this year his hard work and dedication to the sport got him a spot on the FCIAC OL All-East Team.
Mason Riina has been playing ever since he was 9 years old, and he has accomplished a lot during just 4 of them in high school. He has been starting on varsity since his sophomore year as a QB with Norwalk High’s Football team. During his time on the team, he was recognized his junior year with FCIAC Honorable Mention, and this year he was recognized with 2024 FCIAC All East.
