“Our 4×2 sprinters came second all FCIAC and got a silver medal for it so we’re gonna go to states next week and try to continue their great efforts.”

On February 3, 2022 the indoor track team filed into the bus to head to Hillhouse high school in New Canaan for the FCIAC championship. After a long season of preparing for this, the runners who had qualified excitedly sat for the long ride that awaited them. Once they arrived there were hundreds of people there, warming up and preparing for their event and tons of families and friends ready to watch.

One event to watch was when the girls team ran in the 4×800 relay, most of the girls did not often run an 800 meter race before so they were unsure of what to expect. Devon Small (24’), Danielle Garcia (23’), Madeline Pare (22’), and Rachael Boone (22’) ran a 12:28.80 and most of them got a new PR. I talked to the boys and girls distance coach, Carlos Rodriguez, who said, “So far we’ve only had the 4×8 relays, the boys did pretty well, the girls exceeded my expectations by quite a bit, they all had PRs and I am extremely happy with them.”

One very exciting thing to witness was the boys 4×200 relay. Henry Wilkins (24’), Sean Williams (22’), Jackson Luther (22’), and Jamar Alcena (23’) ran a 1:36.10 putting them in second place which earned them a silver medal and a spot at states. I spoke to senior captain, Vandan Patel (22’), who said, ”FCIAC is going great. Our 4×2 sprinters came second all FCIAC and got a silver medal for it so we’re gonna go to states next week and try to continue their great efforts.” Vandan also had a great meet himself, getting a new PR of 1:30.84 in the 600 meter race.

Senior captain Madeline Pare (22’) said it best when I asked her how she felt we performed at FCIAC, “I feel like today everybody is doing really good, you know everybody is PRing and I think having a lot of fun and I think that’s what really matters for today especially for FCIAC.” The team had a great season and we can’t wait to see how those who qualified for states perform!
