Now that the Staples/Norwalk Gymnastics team are in the middle of their season we can now talk of their outstanding team scores that truly show their hard work and talent. The girls have been training hard at the Westport YMCA each day improving their skills. On January 29th 2025 the team got their best overall score of the season, a 128.3.
This years team has a diverse mix of skills with some players who have had no prior competition experience to others who have been involved with this sport their whole life. With an entirely transformed team they didn’t know what to expect for this season. Despite the challenges, they continue pushing themselves to improve in both practice and competition.
The rotations of who competes on each event is not consistent there is no set lineup. The chance to compete is given based on who is succeeding and progressing the most in practice. This coaching strategy ensures that each gymnast remains motivated and enganged.
Sophomore captain, Katie Hoffman has taken a leadership role, guiding her teammates and setting positive examples. Katie tells us about two standout freshmen on the team, Caitlin Eckert and Sophia Damato who have both made significant improvements this season. Their consistency and strong performances have earned them a place as stable competitors, contributing valuable scores.
With each meet, the Staples/Norwalk team continues to grow stronger. As they move forward to finish out their season they look to build on their recent successes, aiming for even higher scores. They have their FCIAC meet this Saturday, February 8th and hope to qualify for states and set a new school record.
