The Rising Stars of Norwalk Wrestling

Get to know promising wrestlers Markos Papakosmas, Kostaki Papakosmas, and Alex Peralta, and have a look into the impact they’ve had on the Norwalk Wrestling Team during their first year.

Over the years Norwalk High has had a great wrestling program with many big names, but we’d like to highlight some of the athletes who haven’t yet created such a reputation, but still bring great success to the team. These wrestlers, senior Markos Papakosmas, sophomore Kostaki Papakosmas, and junior Alex Peralta, have contributed tremendously to this program as their first year of being wrestlers. Follow us along as we take a look into the athletes’ thoughts on the sport, the team, and their experiences being first-year wrestlers.

Senior Markos Papakosmas has impressed us time and time again with his tremendous success in only his first season of wrestling. He wrestles in the 145 pound weight class, and though it’s only his first season wrestling as a senior, you wouldn’t guess it after watching him in action. Due to his hard work and dedication to improvement, Markos has recently won various matches, but he wouldn’t only credit his success to himself. He told us, “We have an amazing coaching staff and captains to help quide us.” Good luck to Markos during the rest of his season, and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.

The sport is very demanding, but the time and effort is worth it as I have had one of the best times of my life wrestling with my teammates and amazing coaching staff.

Sophomore Kostaki Papakosmas has done just the same as his brother Markos, and continues to prove himself as having a promising future in wrestling. He wrestles in the 106 pound weight class, and has had much success in his past matches. Both of the Papakosmas brothers have shown great results due to their dedication to the sport, and Kostaki highlighted that while the sport is demanding and challenging, he is “looking forward to helping [his] team do well overall”. Good luck to Kostaki in the rest of his season, and in the rest of his high school career.

Junior Alex Peralta not only exhibits great skill while wrestling, but he’s having a great time while doing it. He shared with us, “The sport is very demanding, but the time and effort is worth it as I have had one of the best times of my life wrestling with my teammates and amazing coaching staff.” Alex wrestles in the 172 pound weight class, and is contributing greatly to the talent of the team this year. What he may lack in experience, he makes up with hard work and diligence. Good luck to Alex in the rest of his season, and in time to come.

While these three wrestlers may be at different points in their high school wrestling career, they can all agree that while the sport is strenuous and requires much dedication, it is worth it in the end when they are able to enjoy the experience with their fellow teammates and coaches. They would also agree that this years team has tremendous talent and promise, and can most certainly make it far. Markos stated, “I think we really have a talented group this season and we could definitely go far in FCIACS,” while Alex also stated, “Our team this year is very promising for FCIAC’s if we put in the work.” These athletes are proof that success can be found through hard work and determination, and we wish them great luck in the rest of their seasons, and for the whole Norwalk High Wrestling Team.
