As the girls’ softball season approaches the halfway point, the Bears look to keep their record above 500. As one of their senior captains goes down, Maddy Yusi, with a torn ACL, the rest of the team tries to keep things going while losing a valuable player. On April 30th, the girls play Fairfield Ludlowe at Ludlowe. They are looking to keep their record positive for the remainder of the season.
Said Senior Captain Maddie Collins.
Maddie looks to keep her Bears rolling with her amazing pitching. She is looking to keep the team in FCIAC contention, to make a deep run and have a successful rest of the season. Yusi says, “It is a mental game, and if you are down on yourself, you won’t play well.” “Keeping energy loud and the environment positive plays a huge role in that.” She said when asked what she does to keep everyone motivated and how she still “stays in the game,”
With most of the team being seniors, they all share one thing in common: wanting to win it all. They are looking forward to making a push to their playoff run after being one game off last year, having a historic 15-inning game against Ridgefield in the FCIAC semifinals. With people going down, they know it’s going to be hard to make a run like last year, but they know that they are still capable of doing it because they grinded and have been working from the off-season to now.
