With the 2025 spring sports season coming up on us quickly, we wanted to get a bit of an insight into the current status of our baseball team. More specifically on our head coach, Coach Mitchell, as well as two very talented leaders of the pitching staff, Chase Depalma and Jaxon Ermo. Chase being the senior, Jaxon the junior, making a strong top two starting pitchers, have high aspirations for this season. This belief seems to be deeply rooted in the whole team, giving a positive outlook and a lot of build up for the season. This team has a chance to do big things if they all lean in and play for each other.
First, we wanted to know a bit more about these pitchers style of pitching. Both of them are right handed, and they have go-to pitches they like to throw in advantage counts to strike out the hitter. For Chase, it is his slider in counts like 0-2 or 1-2, breaking inside to lefty’s and outside to righty’s. For Jaxon, it is his curveball which he says he throws almost as much as his fastball. These devastating pitches are part of why these pitchers are so dominant.
Chase and Jaxon have both been playing for a long time, and the have made many memories throughout their baseball careers. For Jaxon, he remembers hitting his first home run when he was about 7 years old, and when he pitched against the number 1 team in the state last year in a Bears victory. For Chase, he remembers sophomore year in a comeback victory against New Canaan on senior night. And they plan on creating even greater memories this season, as they have big hopes and are excited for this season. Chase is excited for the 12 home games the Bears have this season, and Jaxon is confident they can make a deep playoff run.
But we didn’t just talk with the Norwalk players, we talked with the coach. We asked Coach Mitchell about how Pitchers and Catchers week went, which is the week where they work with the players on the basics and see what they like going into the season. Coach explained all the different techniques the guys worked on and had high praise for them. He also had high praise for the pitching staff and all the pitchers on the team, saying this was one of the best, if not the best pitching room Norwalk had seen in a long time. All 3 of them are excited for this season, and are ready for the next step in Norwalk High Baseball.
