The Norwalk Boys Basketball season is approaching its close. The boys currently have a record of 3-14 with some ups and some downs. They have battled through adversity throughout the season and we have learned a lot about the identity of not only the team as players, but as people too. We sat down with Junior Center Jaxon Ermo and Junior Point Guards Josh Todd and Dylan Izzi to talk about the season, and what’s next for this team.
First, we wanted to know what their plans were for this upcoming off-season was. All answers led to one, getting better at their crafts. All three want to work on conditioning, practicing shots and free throws, and finishing at the basket. We all know how the season has gone for the team, but we wanted to see it through the eyes of the players. They all had different views on their own seasons as a whole. Josh was proud of his promotion to captain and his leadership qualities blooming, Jaxon thought this was his best season as he had multiple games close to 20 points, and Dylan thought as the season went on he got better and shooting and defending.
There are positions in basketball like any other sport, but being a player goes beyond just running out on the court. We wanted to know what each player thought there role was beyond their positions. Josh and Jaxon being captains take their role as leadership seriously, wanting to be a leader to the underclassmen and keep the energy up. Dylan thinks his role is important as he serves as a glue to the team, keeping them together and working well. All 3 had the same best moment this season, beating Trumbull for their first FCIAC win after a losing streak.
Expectations are very high for next season as everyone wants success. All 3 believe that getting the losses out of the way now are important, because next year the juniors will be seniors and want to preform at the highest level before leaving Norwalk High. They all said they are so close together because they have been friends forever, are all juniors, and want what’s best for each other and hold each other accountable to do better every game. Finally, we wanted to know who could have a breakout season next year. Dylan thinks Junior Ameir Spencer will do great, Jaxon believes Dylan will have a good season, and Josh has high expectations for Freshman Christos Kleftogiannis.
