For the last 10 years, Ryan Laing has been doing wrestling and for the first time ever, he was named the captain of the Norwalk High Wrestling team. Being named Captain wasn’t easy for him, he had to face many challenges to become a team captain. He had to show his skill, leadership, management, communication skills, hard work and commitment/dedication to the sport and that’s what made him the person he is today. Since joining the Wrestling team he accomplished being named a 3x FCIAC 3rd place winner and a 2x Class LL 3rd place winner, and he is looking to accomplish way more as a captain.
Since he is going into his final season on the team, he knew he had to set up his goals months before the season and he’s been working very hard/training to make sure he can accomplish his goals. One of the first goals he set up for himself was “To try to win All State so I can wrestle at New England and win a medal.” He’s always been named to the FCIAC every year, but just falls off just short in winning an All State but he’s made sure to train every single day to play an All State this year. One of his other goals for this season is “to reach the milestone of 100 high school career wins.” He is only 5 wins away from 100 wins so he had no doubt that he’ll be able to reach 100 career wins in wrestling as a Bear. The last Bear to win 100 career games was Nick Fatone (2023 Boys Wrestling Team Captain) who graduated last year and has been very supportive and a great friend to Ryan.
Ryan is still unsure of what college he is going to but one thing he knows for sure is that he will continue playing wrestling so he’s making sure to achieve all his goals so he can become more known and he can earn some scholarships.
Here is the schedule for the last upcoming games of the wrestling 2024-2025 season! It will change soon once FCIACs starts!
