When talking about team culture, it relates to the traditions, superstitions, bonds within a team. Bonding is crucial for team chemistry however, the way each team goes about it can be what makes every team unique. For Norwalk field hockey, a form of bonding for them is through pasta parties that take place the day before every home game.
In the beginning of the season field hockey sends out a form to the entire varsity team of the dates before every home game and people have the chance to sign up and host one at their houses. Although it is called a “pasta party” every individual person can choose what meal they want to serve the team. Majority of the time however, the field hockey team bonds over their love for pasta and chocolate chip cookies for desert.
This year, I had the opportunity to host a pasta party before the teams game against Danbury. We had spaghetti and pasta sauce, meatballs, cookies, and brownies. The team being able to talk about non field hockey related topics always leads to good conversation and laughter. Pasta parties are a way to connect and get to know your teammates on a deeper level off of the field which helps a team work and trust each other better on the field.
