Shea King is an athlete at Norwalk High, and he excels in more ways than one. Shea, at only 15, has played football, baseball, shotput, rugby, volleyball and even wiffleball. I got the chance to sit down with the sophomore athlete, and discuss what drives him to keep going, and to do his best! Here’s what Shea had to say.
The first thing I had to ask Shea was, when did he start playing sports? Shea responded with, “I started playing sports when I was in first grade, and I started with flag football.”. Next, due to the amount of sports he has played ranging from football to volleyball, if he had to pick one sport to go pro in, what would it be and why? Shea said, “I would pick the NFL because football is my favorite sport and it is what I would say I like playing the most.”. Something I really wanted to know was how his family has impacted how he plays. Shea responded, “My family has really motivated me to be better at my craft, and motivated me to keep going hard no matter what.”.
Next, I wanted to know, if he could say one person who inspires him everyday, who would it be and why? Shea replied, “My Dad. He is a hero and has done a lot to help and impact the community, and I want to do the same as him and follow in his footsteps.”. Going with that question I asked, what athlete inspires you everyday and why? Shea said, “Bryce Harper, because everyone hates on him but he just ignores them and keeps achieving greatness.”
I just had to ask Shea, what part of being an athlete is the hardest? Shea responded with, “The summer lifts, getting up at 7 while everyone else is sleeping. It’s hard to stay motivated when you know you could be relaxing instead of working.” Next, I wanted to clarify what sports Shea would be playing this year for Norwalk High. Shea replied, “I plan on doing football and baseball, and no I don’t plan on trying any new sports this year.” To get into some fun questions I asked Shea, What’s your favorite sports team? Shea said “The New York Yankees, we’re winning it all this year.”. I also wanted to know, if he had to pick one restaurant to eat at for the rest of his life, what restaurant would it be? Shea responded with, “Hometown Deli, they have some elite sandwiches. To wrap things up I asked, is being a pro athlete your dream job? Shea replied with “It is actually not, I want to be a firefighter because that’s what my Dad did and he has inspired me to do the same.”.
