When you think of every sport there is out there many people think of basketball, baseball, football and all of the most popular sports in the world. One sport that doesn’t get enough recognition is Swimming and Diving and the outstanding coaches they have. Ms Guster, who’s been the head coach of diving for the swim team is a coach that has definitely not get the recognition she’s deserved. She is a coach that has made lots of impact to the team in and outside of the pool that many people don’t know.
Ms. Guster started her diving career when she was 14 years old after she got tired of swimming and she wanted to try something new. What she didn’t know is that would forever change her life, her career and her future. After being an outstanding diver in high school, she was seen as one of the best divers in her school and she was able to get a scholarship to one of the most prestigious colleges in the entire world, Penn State. After graduating from Penn State she wanted to bring her diving skills to Norwalk High School even after living in Pennsylvania her whole life. Little did she know that would change her life and she would meet people she would be talking to the rest of her life.
First she met the Norwalk High current athletic director, Mr. Marchetti who was the head coach of the swim team for 13 years. He describes Ms. Guster as a “demanding and outstanding coach” because she does an excellent job at coaching everyone even if they’re new to the sport and she is always determined to teach all the kids. Assistant boys swimming coach, Mr. Zajdel calls Ms. Guster an “Impressive, dedicating, passionate and hardworking coach” because she is the type of coach that is willing to never give up on anyone even if she’s wasting her own time on them. Finally, head coach of boys swimming, Mr. Minnoci says it’s an honor to work with a D1 athlete that is always helping all of the kids. Their friendship has expanded over the last couple of years because Mr. Minnoci wanted her to stay because he’s seen the development of all the divers from freshman year to senior year and they even became friends outside of the swimming team from all the success they both made.
The impact that she has made on all of these kids is unbelievable, having to work with a Penn State graduate has to be an honor. She’s made kids who didn’t know how to dive or swim at all to become pro athletes and having a successful future ahead of them. Ms. Guster is a coach that needs to be recognized out there more because what she has done to help make these kids all pro divers is something everyone needs to know about.
