Track is Back!
The Norwalk High School indoor track program is starting their season soon! Their first meet is on Saturday, December 16, at Nicholas Zeoli Field House, against Wilton HS. The time is approaching, and the Norwalk community is ecstatic. After witnessing the tremendous runners in the previous years, there is a lot to look forward to going into this winter.
The competitions that take place in the winter are sprinting, distance, hurdles, long jump, and high jump. The competitions are similar to the spring activities, but much shorter than the fall cross country. The winter includes events like the 4×200 and 4×800 relay, 600, 1000, 1600, and 3200 meters, and 55 meter hurdles. Tyler Consolati, junior captain of long distance said, “There is a ton of talent around the whole track program, and I am excited to see what comes of it.”
A big loss for the program is Jamar Alcena, who was a 2023 graduate. He dominated on the track, and put his name on many Norwalk High School records. First off, he broke the record in the 100 meters race, crossing the line in 10.74 seconds. Secondly, he completed the 200 meters race in 22.44 seconds. He also broke the record for the 60 meter race, running it in 7.14 seconds. Jamar said, “I am really going to miss running for Norwalk High, but I know that there are a lot of talented athletes wearing green.”
Their schedule this year begins with meets in Wilton on 12/16 against Wilton, Danbury, and New Canaan. Next, they compete on 1/6 against Wilton, Danbury, Fairfield Ludlowe, and Fairfield Warde. After that, they compete on 1/13 against Wilton, Brien McMahon, Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Warde, New Canaan, Ridgefield, and Trumbull. Then, they have a meet at Staples High School on Saturday, 1/20 Staples, Darien, Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Warde, Ridgefield, Trumbull, and Westhill. They finish off the season on 1/27 at Staples, competing in the FCIAC competitions.
The Norwalk High School track program has been solid throughout the past couple years. Although there were some seniors that were a huge loss, there are still many talented athletes that remain a part of the school. Norwalk is expected to be a strong program once again this year. There is truly a lot to look forward to. Make sure you’re in Wilton on Saturday, December 16, to watch the bears battle.
