Diving Into the Life of Coach Guster

Take a closer look at Coach Amy Guster’s diving career.

We all know and love Mrs. Guster but there’s something you may not know…

Amy Guster is not just the extraordinary Health and Physical Education teacher we are blessed to have here at Norwalk High School. She is also the boys and girls dive coach, in fact, diving has been part of her life for decades. Mrs. Guster was a swimmer up until eighth grade. She became burned out from swimming but couldn’t draw herself out of the pool… that’s when she found her love for diving.

Mrs. Guster fell in love with the sport and worked tirelessly to make her high school’s very competitive dive team. Her hard work paid off, and she ended up diving at Penn State, a Division 1 college in Pennsylvania. She made some of her best friends there that she is still in touch with to this day.

Mrs. Guster coached diving throughout high school and college, and later became the head dive coach for the Bears. During our interview with Mrs. Guster, she told us a little bit about the start of her coaching career at Norwalk High. “I remember the day I walked into Norwalk High as a long-term sub, and I discovered the pool, and then I discovered the diving board and I knew I would be involved one way or another,” said Coach Guster.

I knew I would be involved one way or another.

Norwalk High is beyond lucky to have Mrs. Guster as our dive coach. Viva Malcarney, senior captain of the girls team, has nothing but good things to say about her coach. “She helped me so much,” said Malcarney, “I don’t think I could’ve survived junior year without her and I’m so thankful for all she helped me learn about myself and others.”
