Determined to win, the Lady Bears are on track for a great season. They started the season off strong with a 74-28 win against Bunnell. They stayed on track next game with a 58-36 win over New Milford. Starting off with a 2-1 record and high expectations the Bears have their eyes on the playoffs. We had the opportunity to speak with two key components of the teams success, senior captains Samantha Phillip and Rachel Miller.

I think after the past three games the team has a chance of doing really good things !

Captain Samantha Phillips

Captain Samantha Phillips is a senior team captain and is committed to play college basketball. We spoke to Samantha about her personal goals and expectations for this year. Samantha shared that for her senior season she wanted to have a fun and successful year. That being said she told us that she will use this year as time to hone her craft for an easier adjustment to the next level.  With the teams early success Samantha says, “I think after the past three games the team has a great chance of doing really good things!” When asked about FCIACS and states she said, “Right now we know that is the end goal and we will keep working everyday to achieve it.” With goals of winning FCIACS and States Samantha and the Bears are working hard taking it one day at a time.

Captain Rachel Miller

Captain Rachel Miller is a senior team captain and has been on the girls varsity basketball team all four years of high school. We got a chance to speak with Rachel on her goals and expectations for this upcoming season. Rachel shared that among her many goals for the season she wants to make it to FCIACS and States. Another one of Rachels goal is to build a strong team dynamic on and off the court by incorporating lots of team bonding. She says “We also want to have a better team bond, which I feel is important in a team sport.” The positive environment Rachel is building will allow the Bears to push one another to be the best they can be. These goals are in sight for the lady bears as they already started the season off sharp. Taking it one day at a time Rachel Miller is building a family that she is confident can get the job done.
