XOXO, The New Gossip Girl

A reboot of one of the most iconic shows on Netflix is happening.  Netflix is one of the most popular apps for streaming hit TV shows and entertainment in general, one of these would be “Gossip Girl”.  This is a favorite amongst all teenagers.

Originally aired from 2007 to 2012, the setting takes place in the Upper East Side and follows the lives of wealthy socialite teens. Gossip Girl is a blog that spreads all the gossip and drama that goes on during the show. The new reboot will be on HBO Max instead of The CW where it was originally aired.

The reason behind the new talk about the Gossip Girl reboot comes from a couple photos being leaked of the whole new cast sitting on the iconic MET steps.  These steps were widely seen during the show itself, so seeing the resemblance of the scenery is exciting.  The premiere date is to be expected between 2020-2021, but with the pandemic it could be pushed back more.

The new cast will be different from the original, though the voice of Gossip Girl, Kristen Bell, has been confirmed to be the same. This spin-off of Gossip Girl is also going to have much more representation and diversity this time.

Joshua Safran who is a writer and producer of the Gossip Girl reboot has expressed before in 2019 that he was quite upset about the lack of representation in the original show.  He says that he will have leads that are not only white and will possibly represent the LGBTQ+ community.  He confirms that the show will be more modern and not completely focus on the wealth of the characters in the show, but where their privilege comes from how they handle that amongst pressures like social media.

Gossip Girl is a fan favorite to me and many others with Netflix.  The storylines with the new modern take will spice up the outdated series.   I’m interested to see the replacements of the original characters or if they will be a new generation of the initial series. Overall, many shows and movies have stopped due to Covid-19 precautions, and are having a hard time starting back up.  To start a whole new series is nerve wracking. Will the reboot meet its expectations? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. You know you love me, Gossip Girl.
